Samsung Galaxy S7 into the hands of iFixit experts

Externally, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 differs only slightly from last year's Galaxy S6: the back cover has become bent at the sides, the camera sticks out less from the housing, the front set 2,5D-glass. Employees popular resource iFixit, which specializes in dismantling the devices and assess their maintainability, decided to see if something has changed in the device. During disassembly, they noted a number of interesting changes to the design of the internal components, compared with last year's models.

Features Galaxy S7 design:

  • most of the components, modular and easy to change;
  • Unlike Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge, the battery in the Galaxy S7 can get without prior extraction of the motherboard, but it is glued to the body, so the process is a bit more complicated than ordinary;
  • to replace the USB connector is necessary to remove the display, which then can be highly likely to break;
  • front and rear glass are fixed with glue and double-sided tape, which greatly complicates their removal;
  • replacing front window without destroying the display is virtually impossible.

Based on these drawbacks Galaxy S7 iFixit received from only 3 out of 10 points on a scale of maintainability, which indicates the complexity and high cost repairs.
